Roughriders Split with Johnson County: Dominant Shutout Followed by 11-4 Setback

Crowder Blanks Johnson County 6-0 Behind Dominant Pitching and Long Ball

Crowder College put together a complete performance on both sides of the ball, shutting out Johnson County Community College 6-0 behind dominant pitching and three home runs.

The Roughriders tallied nine hits and scored six runs, highlighted by a big day at the plate from Maddox Morrison. The left fielder went 3-for-4 with a triple and a home run, driving in two runs and scoring twice. Brady Nolen added a solo homer and finished with two RBIs, while Camren Stratton also went deep and drove in a pair.

Lawson Ward chipped in with a double and a stolen base, and Dylan Fogelsong added a hit and scored a run as Crowder consistently applied pressure offensively.

On the mound, Mason Schirmer was outstanding in his season debut, earning the win after five scoreless innings. Schirmer allowed just two hits, walked none, and struck out eight of the 18 batters he faced. Sawyer Owens was equally sharp in relief, tossing two hitless innings with four strikeouts to close out the shutout.

As a staff, Crowder pitchers combined to allow just two hits while striking out 12 and issuing no walks.

Johnson County managed singles from Boston Bruce and Ashton Hartwig but struck out 12 times and was unable to mount a scoring threat.

Crowder’s three home runs and dominant pitching performance proved to be the difference as the Roughriders secured the 6-0 victory.

Johnson County Pulls Away Late to Defeat Crowder 11-4

Crowder College fell 11-4 to Johnson County Community College despite a three-run home run from Maddox Morrison.

The Roughriders managed four runs on four hits, with Morrison providing the biggest swing of the day. The sophomore outfielder went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Brady Nolen added two hits and drove in a run, while Mason Davidson scored twice. Camren Stratton swiped a base, and Dylan Fogelsong added a sacrifice bunt in the effort.

Johnson County, however, broke the game open with a 15-hit offensive performance. Logan Groh led the way with three hits, including a home run, and drove in a run while scoring twice. Colin Coonradt doubled twice and collected two RBIs, and Boston Bruce added two doubles and two RBIs. Isaac Pamaran tripled and finished with three RBIs as the Cavaliers steadily built separation in the middle and late innings.

Crowder starter Seth Carlson kept the game close early, allowing two runs over four innings while striking out two. Johnson County plated three runs in the fifth and continued to add on, finishing with 11 runs on 15 hits. Nathan Defries, Will Rushing, and Jackson Tuttle combined in relief for the Roughriders.

Johnson County pitchers were sharp throughout. Liam Roche earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing just one run while striking out eight. Brett Pearcy struck out six over three innings of relief, and Cooper Westra closed the door in the ninth.

The Roughriders struck out 15 times on the day, while Johnson County capitalized on timely extra-base hits to secure the 11-4 victory.
