Roughriders Wrap Up Strong Weekend at Branson’s Turf’s Up Classic
Crowder College softball delivered an eventful and high‑powered weekend at the Turf’s Up Classic in Branson, highlighted by explosive offensive innings, standout pitching, and multiple athletes stepping up in big moments.
McCook Community College 9, Crowder 1 – February 20
The Roughriders opened the Classic with a tough matchup against an efficient McCook squad. Despite taking a 1–0 lead in the fourth inning, Crowder was held to just three hits and couldn’t slow down McCook’s late offensive surge, including an eight‑run seventh inning.
Layla Pasley supplied Crowder’s lone run with a solo home run, while pitcher Olivia Hemme struck out 10 across six innings before giving way to Tessa Groeneveld.
Crowder 10, Arkansas State–Newport 3 – February 20
Crowder bounced back convincingly in Game 2 behind a 15‑hit performance. The offense struck early with runs in the first three innings and sealed the win with a five‑run seventh.
Layla Pasley and Karlee McCallister led the charge with a combined six hits and three doubles, while Callie Cooper drove in three runs. Tessa Groeneveld went the distance in the circle, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven.
Crowder 13, Southwestern CC 4 – February 21
The Roughriders erupted for 10 runs in the fourth inning, flipping a 4–3 deficit into a run‑rule victory. Madelief Croonen stole the show, smashing two home runs and driving in four to pace an eight‑hit Crowder attack.
Faith Evans and Josilynn Wyrick combined in the circle, holding Southwestern to four earned runs across five innings. Crowder also showcased aggressive baserunning with eight stolen bases.
Crowder 7, Northern Oklahoma College–Enid 3 – February 21
Crowder closed the event with another strong win, fueled by a fast start that included four runs in the first inning and two more in the second. The Roughriders racked up 13 hits, with Carly Cook and Madelief Croonen each collecting three.
Callie Cooper knocked in three runs, while Evelyn Comstock added another RBI. In the circle, Olivia Hemme worked the first four frames before Groeneveld entered to shut the door, striking out five without allowing a hit.
