#12 State Fair Pulls Away in Second Quarter, Tops Crowder 88–56
NEOSHO, Mo. — A strong second quarter proved to be the difference Saturday afternoon as State Fair Community College pulled away from Crowder College for an 88–56 win at Bob Sneller Gymnasium.
Crowder jumped out to an early lead, edging State Fair 16–13 after the first quarter behind solid defense and balanced scoring. The Roughriders were unable to keep that momentum, however, as State Fair caught fire in the second period, outscoring Crowder 31–10 to take a 44–26 advantage into halftime.
State Fair continued to control the pace in the third quarter, extending the lead with efficient shooting and strong work on the glass. The visitors shot 53.2 percent from the floor for the game and outrebounded Crowder 49–33.
Crowder showed fight in the fourth quarter, outscoring State Fair 23–19, but the early deficit was too much to overcome.
Lexie Henry led the Roughriders with 15 points, knocking down three three-pointers. Kylee Cole added 12 points and five rebounds, while ShaLyn Edmondson chipped in nine points off the bench. Cecilia Scarpatti contributed six points and six rebounds. Abbey Green had 6 rebounds while Anja Sodergard had a career high 5 steals.
State Fair was led by Kamaree Pollard, who scored a game-high 15 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting performance, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Zoe Newland added 14 points and six rebounds, and Maliyah White and Chloe Reed each finished with 13 points. Ellie Buscher controlled the boards with 16 rebounds.
Crowder falls to 15-7 (3-3 Region 16). The Roughriders travel to Mineral Area on Wednesday for a 5:00 PM tip.
